Firefox 3.6.8 compatibility
Is the Surfulater FF plugin compatible with version 3.6.8 of FF. None of the context menu Surfulater features appear to work. My Internet Explorer is working fine with Surfulater.
Using FF and context menu, Surfulater will open up but nothing happens after that - no new articles are created within Surfulater.

Yes Surfulater V3 is fully compatible with FF3.6.8. However the old Surfulater V2 isn't.
When you upgraded from V2 to V3 did you follow the instructions and unintstall the old V2 Firefox Extension. If not this will be the cause. You can check Tools - Add Ons - Extensions and ensure that there is only one Surfulater Extension and it is 3.30.0.0

Unfortunately, the problem appears to be something else. The only version of the extension inside Firefox is the newer one, v3.30.00
I've just tried reinstalling Surfulater to see if that helps, but I notice that I cannot manually uninstall the extension first - the "Uninstall" button is greyed out.
I can confirm that the extension is removed when I uninstall Surfulater.
As you will see from the attached screengrab, there is only one Surfulater extension installed.
I also notice, that on reinstalled Surfulater that I do not need to enter my serial again, and my previous settings are retained - although during the uninstall process I did not ask to retain any settings.
Is there a method I can try to manually remove all Surfulater files and then try a clean install?
Thanks

p.s.
Thought I'd better check exactly what happened when I installed Surfulater version 2.00.00 so that I could give you a better reply about the FF extension.
It appears that version 2.00.00 doesn't even install a FF extension - there aren't any indications that it does on my system, at least.
So, it appears that the problem I'm having is related to v3.30. I've attached another screengrab displaying that v2.00.00 does not install a FF extension.

Just to confirm: Surfulator 3.31.0.0 doesn't appear to rectify the problem. I've tried exiting all system tray apps to see if there was a problem there - but this didn't help either.

Sorry, about this, things are just getting worse here.
I thought I'd try importing my old Surfulater Knowledge Bases that I'd created whilst on Windows Vista. I have a major problem in that all images are missing from the KB. An area of white space remains where the images would have been.
I also have a problem with Surfulater exiting correctly. Most times I have to use Windows Task Manager to End Process on Surfulater - that is, Surfulater will not open again from its desktop icon without me first checking WTM to see if it closed correctly (from its previous use).
It appears Surfulater just isn't happy running on my system (Windows 7). Everything was fine on Vista - though, I must admit I'd never tried using it with Firefox back then.
I am now more concerned that I will not be able to view all of my old Knowledge Bases. The Firefox integration I could have ignored and just used Internet Explorer when necessary.
Hopefully you will have a solution (other than not using this current operating system).
Thanks.

I'm going to leave it at this and consider going back to Surfulater 2...
Print Preview in my Surfulater 3 displays a completely blank page - regardless of whether there should be images or text for the print output.
I've had no other problems with other software on this Win 7 system so I'm bemused by what is happening with Surfulater.

Surfulater V3 automatically installs the Surfulater Firefox Extension for you. Back in the old V2 release you had to manually install it.
Your problems are most likely caused by your Firewall or some other application that is denying access to Surfulater's built-in Web Server. Such blocking will prevent images from being displayed and prevent the Surfulater Firefox Extension from working.
For more on this see: Images are not being displayed in Knowledge Base Articles.

Thanks, Neville. That does sound like the issue I'm having.
Now I just need to work out what exactly is acting like a firewall - as I'm only using Windows built-in firewall and Avira Antivir. Antivir is the free version so doesn't act as a firewall - I've already tried disabling it and that didn't resolve the problem(s).
I'll start looking on my system to try and find what it could be and report back. My finding may help others with a similar problem.
I just wonder what it can be. Are there specific ports that I may be blocking that could accidently be blocking Surfulater? That's about the only extra security I have in place - and a few things blocked in my hosts file.
Hopefully I'll find the culprit soon.

The built-in Web Server uses Port 9108. It would be worth looking at the Surfulater Log file to see whether it shows anything of interest. See Where is the Surfulater Log file located?
Is the Win7 - VM Installation you mentioned, working correctly with Firefox and displaying images ok?

At last. Everything is fine now.
+++ It was my hosts file. +++
Not sure exactly which program had modified my hosts file (or if it was me not being careful). the problem was having "localhost" specified like this in the hosts file:
123.123.123.123 localhost
(I've changed the numbers because i don't know if they were sensitive or not.)
Simply commenting out the line by placing a # at the beginning made everything work.
Now i just have to try and work out if the line was important for something else.
Thanks for the help and I hope this little solution may help others with similar problems.
p.s.
On Win 7, the hosts file is at: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Thans for the help, Neville.

Well that's great news. Now you mention it the hosts file makes sense, however it didn't enter my thoughts. Blocking or mucking with localhost will certainly cause problems. I'll update the FAQ.
